This electromagnetic lock can be actuated to provide access control to any door. The heavy duty metal construction is strong enough to put to real work.
When power is applied an electromagnet is powered and the latch moves to the unlocked position. The required voltage is 12V and current is 0.6A. This is a perfect voltage for a car, RV, or solar application.
A microcontroller like an Arduino could be programmed to operate the lock. An Arduino will typically only output 5V at only 20mA on a digital pin. A MOSFET transistor or relay could be used to pass 12V to the lock at a higher current than the Arduino is capable of on its own.
This lock could be used in conjunction with an RFID tag reader to create a system where lockers at a gym or at work can be unlocked only by the card carrier.
